During my decade in the fleet card industry, I've witnessed firsthand the challenges that come with managing a retail fuel card program. This realization inspired me to establish Fractional Fueling, a consultancy aimed at revolutionizing fuel card management and providing fractional fuel manager services.
In many organizations, the responsibility for fuel management falls on the shoulders of fleet managers. However, the impact of fuel cards extends far beyond just fleet operations- impacting multiple parts of the organization including finance, safety, human resources, procurement, IT, and others. This complexity makes managing fuel expenses a daunting task, with many viewing it as a necessary evil, or operational hindrance, rather than a strategic asset. Additionally, the sheer volume of transactions in large fleets can make it difficult to identify instances of fraud, misuse, and other fueling inefficiencies- further complicating the issue.
While legacy card providers and newer 'fintech' companies have attempted to address some of these challenges, navigating this competitive market is challenging. With my background working for fuel card providers in a business development capacity and serving as a niche subject matter expert, I bring a unique perspective and expertise to the table.
